Reader’s Question:

What will affect my commercial vehicle insurance quote in Michigan? Is there a list of commercial vehicle insurance companies I can choose from?

Irene

Detroit MI

There are different types of insurance being offered by insurance industry. There are health insurance which aims to take care of the financial factor when you get sick. In this kind of insurance, the main factor that will affect the insurance cost is your health status. There is also life insurance which aims to take care of the family left behind by the policy holder. In this type of insurance, the probability of how long or short you will live will affect the insurance premium. And, there is also vehicle insurance which is also known as car insurance, motor insurance or auto insurance. This type of insurance aims to protect you from financial backlash when your car gets involved in a car mishaps.

One of the major factors that will affect your vehicle insurance quote is the level of protection or coverage that you want to include in your policy.

  • If you just want to meet the required coverage mandated by law, then you can get the bodily injury liability and property damage liability coverage. These 2 give protection to the innocent third parties – people and properties hit by your car.
  • There are 16 states that require personal injury protection (PIP). This will give you reimbursements for your medical bills and salary loss incur due to car accident.
  • Collision and comprehensive coverage will pay in the incident that your car get damaged or stolen, even if it’s your fault.
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage will cover you if the motorist at-fault has none or does not have enough vehicle insurance policy coverage.

There are still a lot of different types of coverage to answer your different needs. But the above mentioned are the most common types. The law only requires you to have bodily injury liability and property damage liability coverage. If you will only get what is required by the law, then your vehicle insurance quote will be minimal.

But if you want to include other types of coverage because you and your car need them, then you can expect to get a higher vehicle insurance quote. Nevertheless, you will feel more secure about your car as you will be financially protected from whatever kind of mishaps your car will get involved with.

Will Auto Insurance Pay for Damaged Windshield?

Reader’s Question:

My car’s windshield got broken in an accident that involves my friend’s surfboard. I want to know if I can claim from my car insurance or not. By the way, if I don’t get the glass replaced soon, can I still drive the car around even with that broken glass? Will I be ticketed by the Florida police?

Ryan

Miami, Florida

In Florida, if you carry only the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and the Property Damage Liability (PD), which is the minimum auto insurance required by the state, then expect that your damaged windshield will not be covered.

Typically, the repair or replacement of a windshield is covered by the Comprehensive Coverage. In your state, if you carry this kind of policy, the deductible is waived when the windshield is being replaced. This is noted under Florida Statute 627.7288. So, if you only have liability coverage in your policy, it is likely that you would have to personally fund the replacement of your windshield.

It is possible that you may be ticketed for a broken windshield, especially if the law enforcer finds the damage to be obstructing your view and considers it unsafe. Under Section 316.2952, it is stated that a vehicle must have a windshield. However it is not stated that the vehicle has to have a windshield that is in “proper condition.” Therefore, this conviction would have to be assessed further in court. If the court finds the broken windshield to be unsafe, then it would state that you are violating Section 316.610, which is driving an unsafe vehicle.

Reader’s Question:

I know there are a lot of car insurances out there with sky rocketed premiums. I just want to know what can I do to lower down the cost of my auto insurance in Lincoln, NE? Help anybody?

Julia

Lincoln, NE

There are a lot of ways to lower your premiums. I have a cousin who’s an insurance agent in Lincoln, NE who told me that driving less would mean lower premium. So, he demanded me to use public transportation whenever I can or share a ride with a friend. The logic behind this is that less driving means less driving miles in your car. So the goal is to reach less than 500 miles/ month and when you reached that point then you can apply for a Low-Mileage policy and he did save a lot of money with that

Also, having anti-theft devices in your car is one sure way of lowering your premiums. It’s simple, more anti-theft devices means greater reduction in your premium. Who would want to offer a lower premium to a car that is vulnerable to thefts? Certainly no one!

If you have separate car insurance and medical insurance, then it’s best to ask for a lower liability coverage from you car insurance. Since you already have a health insurance you don’t really need to invest much on liability insurance since your health insurance would surely back you up when some bad things happened to you.

Those are just some ways. Always check online to know if you’re still getting what you think is affordable auto insurance that still meets your needs.
