There are many things that you have to think about when you have a commercial truck, things long the lines of owning and leasing, and your insurance. There is a lot of responsibilty placed on you. It is one thing already to be navigating the roads with such a large vehicle while following safety precautions, but you also have to protect your property. The thing about working as a trucker is that not everything you have with you is your property, even if you own the truck. There’s always the cargo. The cargo is what you are paid to take from place to place by somebody else, so if something happens to it on the way, then you are in trouble.
Many a commercial vehicle insurance company will offer cargo coverage, and it is one of the most valuable types of commercial truck coverage. If you are taking around any cargo in your commercial truck, cargo coverage insurance will pay for the loss or damage of any of it should you have a collision. This is only in the case of a collision, though, and does not apply to things like theft. If you are carrying chips, and then you pull over at a truck stop to go to the bathroom only to come back to find the chips gone, you are out of luck. You should also understand that there is a maximum dollar amount for the coverage.
Another type of cargo coverage insurance is terminal coverage, which does not involve collisions. It provides coverage for cargo only at a certain place, such as the warehouse where it is either being loaded into the truck or unloaded. It only works for that place and a certain amount of time not exceeding three days.
